Wirewerks launches NextSTEP Technology™

Industry-first design saves space, time and money

Montreal, QC – April 26, 2017. – Wirewerks, a leading manufacturer of network infrastructure solutions, announced today the launch of their innovative new NextSTEP Technology™ product line. NextSTEP Technology is Wirewerks’ high-density fiber management solution and includes a complete range of patch panels, slide-in modules and cable management accessories suitable for installation in virtually any passive optical fiber application.

In its maximum density configuration, the NextSTEP system manages up to 3,000 ports (6,000 fibers) in a standard 19” server rack, freeing up valuable floor space for other equipment and applications. NextSTEP solves the accessibility issues found in typical high-density systems by offering complete front and rear panel access along with industry-exclusive NextSTEP features including ‘stepped’ positioning for the modules within a panel and a unique magnetic cable management system.

Six NextSTEP modules are currently available, including a customizable patch module, an MPO adapter strip module, a distribution module, a splice tray module, a C/D-WDM module and a blank adapter module. Modules may be mixed in any combination in the panel and installed in as little as ten seconds without the need for specialized tools or training. All modules have integrated cable management features, allowing technicians to work on a group of 12 fibers without disturbing other live fibers co-resident in the panel. All of these features combine to reduce installation time and improve mean-time-to-repair (MTTR), while simultaneously increasing up-time and reducing costs.

A trio of enabling technologies

NextSTEP functionality is based on three unique enabling technologies with several new patents currently pending.

The ‘stepped’ shelf design provides greatly improved accessibility even with the system’s industry-leading density factor. Greater accessibility along with super high-density means reduced floor space requirements along with faster installs, MACs and repairs; all contributing to reduced costs.

The common form-factor modules allow for mixed deployment in the same panel. NextSTEP 1U and 4U patch panels accept up to 12 or 48 modules respectively, in any combination. Each patch or distribution module manages up to 12 fibers, or as many as 96 fibers in MPO adapter modules. The optical fiber splice tray module supports single or ribbon fiber splicing, with a capacity of up to 24 fibers and 2 bare fiber splitters per module. The C/D-WDM module is available in 4, 8 and 10 channel configurations and features all-independent, complete front panel access for easy installation and maintenance. The blank adapter module reduces heat exchange between hot and cold aisles through the patch panel in data center applications and provides convenient storage space for small parts and accessories. NextSTEP solutions deliver the density and the flexibility customers need for scalability and versatility in today’s optical networks.

CableTree™ cable management components are reusable accessories that employ a unique magnetic mount to allow positioning or repositioning as often as required in NextSTEP patch panels. In addition to flexible positioning, CableTree mounts are specifically engineered to release if cable-tension exceeds threshold, protecting the fibers from strain-related damage during installation or maintenance routines.

Wirewerks launches new Fiber Splice-On Connector

Factory-terminated results in a field-terminated connector

Montreal, QC – July 24th, 2017. – Wirewerks, a leading manufacturer of network infrastructure solutions, announced today the launch of their innovative new Optical Fiber Splice-On Connector. The new Splice-On Connector combines the performance and reliability advantages of fusion splicing with the flexibility and on-site termination benefits of field-installable connectors.

Wirewerks Fiber Splice-On Connectors are compatible with any 2-3mm OD single fiber cable and are available in LC and SC connector formats in either APC or UPC ferrule polishing styles.

Each Splice-On Connector is pre-assembled with no housing to install and pre-cleaved so that technicians only prep and splice the incoming fiber. The ultra-flexible boot allows routing even in tight spaces and provides a labeling space for proper fiber identification.

The Splice-On Connector utilizes just two components – a connector and a pre-crimped Kevlar rope that is mechanically merged to the cable. The two-component approach is easy to learn and repeat, simplifies installation, maximizes yield, and delivers guaranteed insertion loss and return loss performance equivalent to factory-terminated connectors. Additionally, Wirewerks Splice-On Connectors are compatible with any fusion splicer and eliminate the need for expensive crimping tools, splicer jigs, index matching gels, and splice trays/enclosures; providing cost effective, reliable, low-loss solutions for fusion-spliced field fiber termination.

Wirewerks adds new Wall Mount Patch Panel to NextSTEP Technology™ System

Greater flexibility and accessibility in fiber wall mount applications

Montreal, QC – July 24th, 2017. – Wirewerks, a leading manufacturer of network infrastructure solutions, announced today the addition of the NextSTEP™ Optical Fiber Wall Mount Patch Panel to the NextSTEP Technology system line-up. The new NextSTEP Wall Mount Patch Panel brings the unequalled flexibility, functionality and accessibility of NextSTEP Technology rack mount systems to wall mount installation environments.

The NextSTEP Wall Mount Patch Panel features the industry’s first ‘stepped’ shelf design that houses up to six NextSTEP fiber modules in any combination, in any shelf position. The panel offers complete front and rear access to any installed module, and the stepped design allows for easy access to any individual cassette, adapter or splice tray module without disrupting other modules co-resident in the panel. NextSTEP fiber modules slide easily into any of the shelf positions within the chassis without the need for specialized tools; making initial deployment, subsequent MACs, and repair/restoral activities simple, fast and cost-effective.

A variety of NextSTEP fiber modules may be installed in any combination in the Wall Mount Panel, making it a highly versatile solution capable of supporting virtually any fiber networking application and any fiber termination technique. Fiber counts for typical applications would include up to 72F using LC Patch Modules, and up to 144F using Splice Tray Modules supporting pigtail and ribbon cable fusion splicing. Wirewerks launches new Field Terminable RJ45 Plug

Guaranteed CAT6A Performance in under a minute

The new RJ45 Plug combines the performance and reliability advantages of factory-terminated Category 6A plugs with the flexibility and on-site termination benefits of field-installable connectors.

Available in both shielded and unshielded formats, the Wirewerks Field Terminable RJ45 Plug enables fast, reliable on-site termination of UTP and FTP solid-conductor copper cables in the exact lengths required for each individual cable run. Cable pairs are precision terminated on an IDC module within the plug, and the cable itself is secured to the plug by simply closing the plug’s two hinged jaws and locking with the integrated compression nut. The plug is precision engineered to apply the exact pressure necessary to complete a perfect, secure termination every time. No crimping, special tools or special technician training are required and the IDC interface supports both T568A and T568B wiring schemes. The Wirewerks Field Terminable RJ45 Plug is compatible with any RJ45 standard jack or coupler, and cable/plug terminations are guaranteed to meet Category 6A performance specifications, all in under one-minute of installation time.
